Miracles.

We all love Christmas Miracles in real life, but do they work in writing? What do you think?

I'm writing this story and I'm thinking if I give it a happy ending, it would be a true miracle - the question is, do I write miracles or not?

That's too vague on details for me to give an opinion.

Yeah, sorry, I was half-rambling to myself.

I was thinking about things that are not deus ex machina, not completely impossible, but very improbable.

In my story, the hero is gone on a very dangerous mission. It's not impossible he'll return, but of course there is a war going on, so if he makes it, and the heroine is also safe and sound upon arrival, and so is their child, and everyone else ... that is very much a miracle. But I don't want to play Russian roulette with my characters either and just pick one or two who don't make it.

Ah, I figure I just have to decide and then try to write it believable, whichever option I choose. ;-)

*laugh* Well, you can always give it a try, and if it feels forced/wrong when added to the rest of the story, you can delete it (yes, November is almost over, you can admit the delete key exists again) and try something a little more somber.

I might actually try that ... if anything is written influenced by the spirit of Christmas, it'll be far too saccharine anyway.
